The Organization

Old Skool Cafe (OSC) is a faith-based, violence prevention program that provides job training, employment, and a second chance at life by way of an evening jazz restaurant run by at-risk, formerly incarcerated, and foster care youth ages 16-22.

Position Summary

The Program Director (PD) is a key member of the OSC leadership team, primarily responsible for all aspects of the youth development programming and oversight.  The PD ensures a positive and successful experience for every youth that enters our program.  The PD oversees the coordination and administration of all aspects of OSC including youth data tracking, grant reporting and overall youth development. This includes planning, organizing, leading, and supervising program activities. Since our program is centered around a restaurant training program, which includes evening restaurant hours, the PD will also be responsible for supervision and mentorship of youth on the floor in partnership with the restaurant leadership team during restaurant hours, and at private events on occasion. The youth director’s hours will primarily be afternoons, evening and Saturdays to accommodate our youth’s school schedule.

 

Primary Responsibilities

The critical deciding factor for a PD to join OSC will be a fit with the vision, mission, and values of the organization. We are seeking a professional with a broad skill set in youth development, people management, and the passion to use those skills to make lifelong impact in the lives of youth.

To this end the PD will primarily:

  • 1. To serve as a coach/chaplain on site that:

    • Reinforces OSC’s core values and team unity in all interactions with youth and adults. 
Provides a positive, encouraging, enthusiastic and calming presence to the team.  

    • Provides weekly coaching for youth and coordination of services for youth.

    • Supervises coaching team

    • Supervises and facilitates coordination of holistic services for all youth in the program, including:  Youth development meetings and daily communication with coaches, collaborative partners and restaurant team.

    • Coordinates trauma informed care training for the adult team. 



    2.  To shepherd new youth from recruitment, to employment to an alumni of our program. This includes, but is not limited to:

    • Recruiting youth into the program and manage the 12-week Trainee experience from start to finish.

    • Coordinate and supervise each Trainee’s involvement with Old Skool Cafe through the entire process from recruitment, intake, on-boarding, graduation, to becoming an OSC employee.  The number one goal of the PD is to ensure that each Trainee receives all the support he/she needs to be successful and has a positive, life-changing experience at Old Skool Cafe.

    • Work closely with Restaurant Manager(s) to ensure continued growth and success for each youth in our program.

    • By working in partnership with the restaurant training coaches, ensure the apprentice is moving forward through the stages of the 2 year program and ready for an externship & employment outside of Old Skool Cafe by the final quarter.  Continue support for Alumni on an as needed basis.


    3.  To coordinate and facilitate youth progression through the Passport to Success tool.

    This includes but is not limited to:

    • Track and report youth stats through the entire OSC program. Improve and develop tracking 
tools and procedures as needed.

    • Developing and managing the youth coaching team. 


    • Coordinating with Sunset Youth Services Case Management Team.


    • Coordinate, oversee, and supervise Life Skills workshops.

    • Coordinating all youth-related celebrations: graduations (OSC & school), birthdays, 
Christmas party, etc. 


    4.  Administrative Management and program-related partnerships. This includes but is not limited to:

    • Management, data tracking, reporting and implementation of grant related requirements for youth program-specific grants (ie. 
DCYF). 
 This includes attending required meetings and trainings.

    • Work collaboratively with the development team and marketing team to assist in grant writing, reporting and impact.

    • Engaging volunteers and interns for appropriate program activities using 
established volunteer management practices. 


    • Facilitating, establishing and continuing partnerships for recruitment of youth. Examples include: Probation, diversion programs, etc.Reporting Relationships

Qualifications

We’re looking for a uniquely gifted leader who is passionate about youth, teachable, resilient, highly professional, humble, confident, and emotionally intelligent. 
This position requires a broad base of skills and experience, the professional qualifications we’re looking for are: 


  • A Bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, or other relevant subject matter. Equivalent professional experience will also be considered. 


  • Five (5) or more years experience working in a management position for a program or organization serving at-risk youth. 


  • Strong organizational abilities including planning, development and task facilitation. 


  • Experience training, mentoring and motivating youth

Solid budget management skills, including budget preparation, analysis, decision-making and reporting. Benefits
