Old Skool Cafe (OSC) is a faith-based, violence prevention program that provides job training, employment, and a second chance at life by way of an evening jazz restaurant run by at-risk, formerly incarcerated, and foster care youth ages 16-22.
The Executive Chef (EC) is a key member of the OSC leadership team, leading the overall kitchen operations that include youth development activities in a restaurant that serves as the platform for youth training and mentoring. With full support from the leadership team, the EC oversees the entire kitchen operations of OSC, ensuring the kitchen is well run, produces great food, and is a positive, encouraging training ground for youth. The EC oversees special catering events and offers culinary instruction and/or demonstrate culinary techniques. The EC directly supervises kitchen personnel with shared responsibility for hiring, discipline, and performance reviews.
The critical deciding factor for an EC to join OSC will be the fit with the vision, mission, and values of the organization. We are seeking a professional with a solid skill set in leadership, planning, kitchen management and culinary ability, and the passion to use those skills to make life-long impact in the lives of youth.
To this end the EC will primarily:
Train and manage kitchen personnel, supervise and coordinate all related culinary activities.
Estimate food consumption and requisition/purchase food.
Select and develop recipes and standardize production recipes to ensure consistent quality.
Establish presentation technique and quality standards.
Plan and price menus.
Ensure proper equipment operation/maintenance.
Ensure proper safety and sanitation in kitchen.
Maintain professional image of restaurant, including proper uniforms and appearance.
Reporting to the Executive Program Director, the EC directly manages the Sous Chefs, and has overall supervisory responsibility for all kitchen staff.

We’re looking for an Executive Chef who is curious, very teachable, highly professional, humble and confident, and emotionally intelligent.
The professional qualifications we’re looking for are:
Bachelor’s Degree or culinary degree preferred.
At least four (4) years of culinary team development and kitchen management in a high volume restaurant.
Experience with control food and labor cost, demonstration cooking, and menu development.
The ability to manage in a diverse environment with a diverse youth staff.
Ability to maintain an orderly training environment at all time.
Ability to partner and build relationships with management, colleagues and vendors while demonstrating leadership and integrity and promoting team success.
Ability to train and mentor youth with no prior work or hospitality experience.
Ability to motivate others to accomplish goals.
Proficiency in Google Docs and or Excel.
Food Manager's card (preferred not required). Food Handler's card (required).
